(2)Fluorescent proteins

In theory, FPs could be coexpressed with any target proteins of interest, thus realizing specific labeling of the target proteins. On the other hand, transfection and transgenic techniques provide convenient ways to deliver exogenous DNA into cells or organisms, which undoubtedly enhances the power of FP labeling. However, we should also realize the inherent limitations in FP labeling, including low fluorescence signal, poor photostability, relatively large size (2–5 nm), ectopic expression, and possibly disturbance in the functionality of target proteins [41, 44].
